quick q&a

CLASSIC VS CONTEMPORARY? – Classic. Why do you think all the designers keep bringing the past on the runway each year… ?

NATURAL VS SYNTHETIC? – Please. How is that even a question… ? Synthetic is for when you’re 14, underdressed and wearing too much make-up

NEUTRAL VS COLOUR?  – Neutral. I prefer to add color using accessories.

QUALITY VS QUANTITY? – Quality. Better a Chanel bag than ten Furlas. I love Furla too, though J

MARILYN MONROE VS KATHARINE HEPBURN? -Maybe I haven’t reached that age when I want to be Monroe. But I prefer insinuation to certainty. So I will always go for Hepburn.

RETAIL VS CUSTOM MADE? – Depends. I would love to have Lagerfeld do some custom work for me. Not there yet, though. So I will say retail on the fantastic brands and custom made when I visit Choices.

BOTICELLI VS DALI? – Dali.

PRADA VS CHANEL? – Chanel. A million times over

INTERNATIONAL VS ROMANIAN? – I have found amazing pieces by Romanian designers and am happy to wear them – ID Sarrieri, Murmur, Maria Lucia Hohan. I also wear Choices since I discovered them and have had several pieces custom made here. I am not afraid to invest in a fantastic item, which I feel will last forever. That said, not everyone making clothes is a designer and I have found myself many times shocked by the price tags on some of the so-called designs, created by people who have really nothing to do with real fashion…

BAROC VS ART NOUVEAU? – Art Nouveau. Although my art collection is mostly Art Deco.

KNOWLEDGE VS SELF-KNOWLEDGE? – They intertwine. You cannot know others without knowing yourself and viceversa. We are all the products of our cumulative experiences. And we learn from each and every one of them.

YIN VS YANG? – Not versus, in my case. Yin and Yang make one.

WOOD VS FLORAL? – Wood. Amber and Musk. Ambre Fetiche and Musk Nomade, both by Annick Goutal, to be precise.

MAD MEN VS SEX AND THE CITY? – Both of them for the style. I love vintage, though, so might see me looking like the 60s rather than the 2000s.

MINI VS MAXI? – Medium. I always go for moderate.

SEASIDE VS THE MOUNTAINS? – City breaks across Europe.

  • PLEASE SHARE WITH US A FEW WORDS ABOUT YOURSELF/ YOUR JOB

A year ago I decided to define myself professionally. Although I see myself as a journalist at the core, my work spans on more areas, so I consider myself a communicator. I am someone who always seeks new challenges, I thrive on adrenaline, and I love meeting new people – I have found the most extraordinary and unexpected stories in completely random places, and it always amazes me.  I am happiest when I tell stories that move people, when I write articles that matter, when people I know or total strangers tell me that they saw themselves in something I have written. Yes, I am a communicator.

  • WHAT’S BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR CAREER / PERSONAL LIFE, SO FAR?

There were a few moments that changed my path forever. I got my first job at Ziarul Financiar by answering a random ad posted on a wall in my faculty. I started my own PR firm because a good friend convinced me I would be good at it (and to this day I credit him with most of my successes, he is great). I believe the most important moment was when I found the balance between work and my personal life and how to make it last.

Personal life? The moment I realized I am in charge of my choices, that I can find ways to get what I want, be what I want, and be where I want. And when I made the choice to be where I am.

  • NAME THREE THINGS THAT KEEP YOU GOING EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIFE

At the end of each day I ask these questions: am I proud of the way I conducted myself today? Have I done something, even the smallest thing, to bring joy to someone else’s life? Have I been and made others happy? If I make mistakes, what will I do to fix them? Moving forward is what motivates me. Helping people is another thing – this is why I have volunteered with NGOs fighting for human rights for over ten years now. And I always try to offer those close to me the best that I have to give.

  • WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A YOUNG ROMANIAN REGARDING HIS/HER FUTURE CAREER?

They should never limit themselves to their field of “expertise”. Learn, read, go further every single day. You never know where that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity comes from.

  • HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?

Elegant and dramatic, with a twist. I believe in elegance and femininity, so I will mix simple items with a fantastic necklace, for example. I love velvet, lace and suede. Oh, and diamonds.

  • IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT IS THE MOST COMMON/OUTRAGEOUS MISTAKE WOMEN MAKE WHEN IT COMES TO OFFICE WEAR?

Dressing up like a stewardess. I walk around Canary Wharf sometimes and I feel like everyone is wearing an uniform. Needless to say I hate the little handkerchief size scarf that the average corporate woman seems to think will lighten up her outfits. It never does, it just makes you look even more… average.

  • WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CLOTHING ITEM? WHAT ABOUT THE MAKE-UP PRODUCT YOU LOVE MOST?

My Casadei shoes. I could sleep in them, but my husband won’t let me… I have three favorite make-up items I always carry in my bag: my Chanel Vitalumiere foundation, my Yves Saint Laurent Babydoll lipgloss/blush in Prune Impertinente and my Helena Rubinstein Lash Queen mascara.

  • NAME THREE BOOKS/AUTHORS THAT INSPIRED YOU SO FAR

“100 years of solitude” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, “The queen of the South” by Arturo Perez-Reverte and “Perfume: The story of a murderer” by Patrick Suskind

  • HOW/WHERE DO YOU IMAGINE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS FROM NOW?

Running a publication that I am proud of, doing charity work, traveling and learning more about the world with each day.
